An Observation Journal is a great way to hone your observation skills and focus on the world around you! This is an easy and fun project that will give you a way to keep your discoveries and observations organized as you explore Hudson Crossing Park.

What You’ll Need:

  • Blank sheets of paper (any kind works!)

  • Light Cardboard or Cardstock
    (check your recycling bin!)

  • String or yarn

  • Binder clips

  • Scissors or an X-Acto Knife

  • Sandwich bag (optional)

  • Ruler (optional)

Step One:

Fold your paper in half. These will be your pages!

Step Three:

Cut your covers out. Ask an adult to help with this step if you need to!

Step Five:

Thread your yarn or thread through the holes you just made and tie it into loops. Don’t make it too tight or your Journal will be hard to open!

Step Two:

Trace your folded paper onto your light cardboard or cardstock. Do this twice. These will be your covers!

Step Four:

Clip your pages between the two covers you just made with your binder clips. Mark with a pencil three spots along the folded page edge and poke holes through all the layers. Ask for help if you need it!

Step Six:

(Optional) Use a sandwich bag to create a pocket told hold things you find on the inside of your cover!

Step Seven:

Decorate your cover and get outside and start observing!
