Sledding and S’mores
Monday, January 19, 2026, 3pm
During this session of Kids on the Canals, children ages 10 and under will design and build their very own sleds using recycled materials provided by the park. Staff and volunteers will be on hand to help kids brainstorm designs, experiment with different materials, and learn why some shapes slide better than others.
Once the sleds are built, we’ll head over to Hudson Crossing Park’s sledding hill to test them out. Children can race their creations, make improvements between runs, and cheer each other on as they learn through play.
After the sledding fun, everyone will gather at the pavilion for a cozy bonfire. Kids can warm up with hot cocoa and roast marshmallows for s’mores.
An adaptive sled is available upon request to ensure all children can participate in the sledding fun.
Approximately 2 hours long.
Best suited for ages 10 and under.
Group size is limited to 20, Children must be accompanied by an adult (not included in the group size)
Registration is required! Register at the button below.
Tracks & Treats
Saturday, February 16, 2025, 10am
During this winter excursion, children ages 10 and under will become wildlife detectives as they explore the snowy trails of Hudson Crossing Park. Using real examples found around the park, kids will learn how to identify tracks left behind by deer, foxes, birds, rabbits, and other local wildlife. Staff will teach them how to tell which direction an animal was moving, how fast it was going, and what clues in the snow reveal about its behavior.
After the tracking fun, we’ll gather at the pavilion for a classic winter tradition: Sugar on Snow. Kids will watch maple syrup being boiled down, then see it poured onto fresh snow where it instantly transforms into a chewy, toffee-like maple candy. Each participant will get to taste their own piece of this old-fashioned seasonal treat—weather permitting, of course!
Approximately 2 hours long.
Best suited for ages 10 and under.
Group size is limited to 20. Children must be accompanied by an adult (not included in the group size)
